NANJING GATEWAY CONCEPT PLAN

Project: Urban Design for Former Military Airport Base
Site: Houghua-Dajiaochang Airport in Nanjing, China
WRT Planning and Design- Won Invited International Competition
2006

The Nanjing Gateway proposal builds on the construction of the high-speed rail line, and the availability of the Houghua-Dajiaochang Airport Area, to show a concept for an international business center linked to multi-scalar residential districts supported by parks, a canal system, and a variety of educational and public buildings. My project involvement includes generating supporting graphics and 3D model as part of WRT’s interdisciplinary team of urban planners, landscape architects, and architects working on this international design competition.

High-Speed Rail: Nanjing’s gateway to the Global Economy
Cities today compete in a global economy. For people who have choices, lifestyle is an important factor in where they live and work. The new high-speed rail station means quick connections to Shanghai, Beijing and Pu Dong International Airport.  It creates an  opportunity for a business and residential center with strong  connections to international trade. The Honghua-Dajiaochang Airport Site can be Nanjing’s Gateway to the Global Economy, because it is close to the new high-speed rail station. The airport site also has a central  location, good expressway access, and is close to  Nanjing’s airport. Nanjing’s transit system will link this site to the airport and the center. The large amount of land in single ownership is an opportunity to create a desirable business and residential environment that  will appeal to people who have choices.
